How long does it take to fall in love? How long should it take? People always have something to say about the way you should or shouldn’t feel. I think that you should feel anything and everything that you want to. All of us are scared to some degree to be transparent, vulnerable, open. Sometimes we are these things and the feeling isn’t reciprocated and we feel embarrassed and ashamed so we close ourselves off. Nobody likes feeling stupid. But, you only live once. All of us have been on the giving and the receiving end.

If you’re let down, you get up again. If it lasts a month or a year or longer and it dissolves, you get up again. If it lasts a lifetime then of course you will take hits and each time you will get up again. If you stay down, then you choose to stay down. Don’t miss out on life because you are afraid. And don’t wait until it’s too late.

Really, what do any of us know about love? We learn as we go.

Love is

Love is in that first glance that turned to a stare // it’s in your kisses on my cheeks // you stopping traffic as we crossed the street // in that first bite // the wall // the reflection of us in the mirror // the ride home // three days // Joy Division on repeat // walking through the streets via Google Satellite // brunch // movies in bed // it’s in the snow // in our prints // in your hands that kept me from falling // in your arms around my waist // in the chocolate cake // in the raspberries and cream // in the dinners that you made // in your fingers on my back // in your taste // in your breath // in the quiet of sleep // in your smile // in every kiss // in the way you look at me // in the way you say “hey beauty” // on the train when you pull me near // in the silence // in good-bye
in the tears.

I said, “I’m tired.”
He said suggestively, “I’m not.”
I said half laughing, “Just pretend I’m dead and you can do whatever you want. I’m just gonna lie here.”
He said, “Well, it might be good for me but really bad for you.”

Thanks Celia for the song : )

Finally. The right answer.

“I’m crazy.”
“Of course you are! That’s what is good!”

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

If you’re going to be in NYC this Wednesday, pop by the Ella Lounge and enjoy a winter cocktail. I’ll be hosting with Pepper and Casper the Friendly Host. Apparently Lucas Walters is dressing as Santa and you guys are definitely more than welcome to dress as Christmas trees, dreidles, reindeer, snowmen, elves, red/white/green/gold, or anything rated xxxmas. Hope to see you there! You know it will be fun because that’s all we know how to do…well, not all.

For those spending Christmas with family, without family, with friends, on the road, in Iraq, at a shelter, volunteering, alone (which I hope you are not alone) or if you are far from home, Merry Christmas. I hope that above all, you are warm, fed and feeling very loved.

As an additional treat, you should really check out this site haw-lin. I was going to host some of these photos but so many are good that you may as well just go to the site. Thanks Xander for sharing this with me.

Most of the photos I posted today came from Ben Trovato Blog which is absolutely one of my favorites. Everything you want to know– from the photographer, stylist, model, wardrobe– is laid out clearly in front of you. You can visit the photographers’ sites and check out the rest of their work. There is so much amazing work on this site. If you hover over the images that I’ve chosen for today’s post, the photographer is listed first. Anyway, enjoy!

Hello everyone!

I hope you have a really AMAZING week. Today, in NYC, we had mild, wimpy snow flurries. (I just looked outside and never mind. We have a legit light layer of snow). It’s mid-December and it’s the first time it has snowed here! CRAZY! It’s beautiful but if it prolongs into the Spring then I’m going to Mexico. But I can appreciate it for the moment.

Sometimes I think about how awesome it would be to just get up and drive a van somewhere with some friends and live in beach caves or tree houses and sail to deserted islands. We could drink from coconuts and build fires, tell riddles, cook out and sing songs. Hippies. We could bask in the golden rays of the sun and grow our hair long and then sail to even further distant islands. When we grew bored of island life, we would return to the city where we would make millions from all the songs that we wrote on the island that we sold to commercials all over the world and from books we wrote and the art that we created. Anyway…la la la

I feel really thankful today. I had a hearty breakfast, a good cup of coffee and I’m happy that I’m working and I love my job. I love my freaking awesome friends. I have my health. I have shelter over my head and a computer and clothes and my sweet little snake. I talked to my dad yesterday and he’s good. I drank Kombucha just now and had some Rolos which is kind of gross but I just found the Rolos in my purse and it just made me think. DAMN. I’m happy. I have it good. Maybe not as good as some but I am blessed to have all my basic needs met.

Anyway, I guess I caught a whiff of the Christmas spirit. Be selfless. Think of others.Do something nice. Say something nice. Put the toilet seat down. Wash your dishes. Call your parents.

Have a lovely week. xo

Famous Friends and Flawless Media are proud to announce the Discovery One Year Anniversary with special guest Scott Grooves alongside residents Free Magic and VDRK.

Scott Grooves began to DJ in 1988 after being inspired by the Detroit sounds heard throughout the city at the beginning of an era, growing up with a father who played jazz guitar, he picked up the keyboard and went on to lend his musical talents to Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records. He then had his first release in 92 and soon after worked with Roy Ayers, Alton Miller, and was one of the few artists to be remixed by Daft Punk.

Scott Grooves’ recent Resident Advisor podcast was a glimpse into the past with a personal mixtape from ’93, and he’s got another unreleased mix he’ll be sharing with us for your ears. Join us for a special 3 hour set from the man himself on December 11th.

Free before midnight with RSVP at www.adiscoparty.com
